HEI Funding for Promotion of Languages - Application 2026-2027

Funding is available to support you in your work as a stakeholder of the awareness campaign Languages Connect, which is a key action in the implementation of Languages Connect: Ireland's Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026.

If you received HEI Funding for Promotion of Languages in 2025-2026, please upload your annual report, using the annual report template available here.

4.We confirm that we have read the HEI Funding information sheet available on Languages Connect.
5.We commit to adhering to the reporting requirements described in the HEI Funding information sheet. This includes submission of an interim report, with confirmation of dates for events and other funded activity for the remainder of the academic year, no later than Friday, 4 December 2026, as well as submission of an annual report on the academic year 2026-2027, no later than Friday 18 June 2027.
6.We commit to taking part in #ThinkLanguages Week, which runs from Monday 16 to Friday 20 November 2026. Please briefly outline, in one sentence, your plans for involving your institution in #ThinkLanguages.
7.We commit to providing additional activities that promote modern foreign languages, in support of the awareness raising campaign Languages Connect. Such activities could include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Providing Student Language Ambassadors for various events that raise awareness of language courses in your HEI and languages for careers and study abroad
  • Creating materials for events which raise awareness of language courses in your HEI and languages for careers and study abroad
  • Campus events which raise awareness of language courses in your HEI and languages for careers and study abroad, particularly events aimed at post-primary school students
  • Videos which have a targeted audience and a purpose of promoting language courses at your HEI
  • Competitions to promote languages aimed at primary pupils and/or post-primary students
  • Outreach to post-primary schools, including Guidance Counsellors, to raise awareness of language courses in your HEI and languages for careers and study abroad, including workshops and school visits
  • Awareness raising activities to support the retention of first year undergraduates studying languages

We commit to informing PPLI of details of all funded events and activities well in advance, so that a member of PPLI can attend, and activity can be suitably supported/promoted by PPLI.
